STREET FOOD SAFETY: NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF FOOD SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY (NIFST) 2018 TOP AGENDA
At the first meeting after the newly elected Executives of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST) Lagos chapter assume leadership status they have convinced the members that their vote really counts.
The issue of Street food safety was deliberated on and a resolution was reached that the chapter needs to take a proactive steps to assist government as professionals to ensure that the street food is wholesomely prepared and served to the consumers.
The committee working on the subject matter has also done a very good job, and members have finally resolved that the business of Food vending in Lagos is a serious business and food safety and its wholesomeness must be taken seriously by the Food specialist.
Thereafter, Mr. Dodoyi West the Deputy Director (Food Dept.) National Agency for Food & Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), also corroborate the position of NIFST and quest that the institute should partner with NAFDAC to ensure that life is protected and Lagosians live a healthy life.
In his presentation, he stressed that government in collaboration with other agencies and Bank of Industry are working hard to ensure that the business environment is friendlier for entrepreneurs which lead to the creation of Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) to ease the condition of doing business and as well registration of food business with NAFDAC which is now decentralized the registration of products to zonal offices and make the documentation friendlier.
