Pa Michael Akanji Olayemi was born in 1943 at Oke-Oko Egbado in today Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

He joined Nigerian Police after completion of his standard six education, it was during his service to the nation as a police officer that he acquired technical training in auto repairs which came handy in servicing Police vehicles.

Life would be much better if only we all observe and live by the golden rule “do unto others as you wish them do unto you” At least, late Pa Olayemi did.

He was still in active service when the civil war popularly tagged Biafra war started and shortly after the war he resigned as a Police Officer armed with his Technical skill and joined an Italian Auto Company, Incar Motors in Lagos where he worked as an outstanding foreman without blemish. His impressive performance led to his transfer to Port-Harcourt, Rivers State where he became Head of Department of Panel Beating and Spraying as a result of his commitment and effective performance at work. He later retired from Incar Motors and started his own Auto repairs shop Mike & Sons Motors in Rumuomasi, Port-Harcourt.

He became the toast of every person who believed in quality auto service.

Pa Olayemi later relocated home and continued his business in the ancient city of Abeokuta, Ogun state.

Pa Olayemi experienced challenges in his business but His integrity never waned.

A publication in Gateway Mirror (A State run Bi-weekly Newspaper) Vol. 5 No 7…September 23 – 29, 2007 on Page 37. attested to Pa Olayemi’s very rare quality as a man of integrity.

He was reported to have found a bag containing large sums of money and he without hesitation took the money to the newspaper house for the media house to look for the owner and return the money. How many Nigerians today live by this values and virtues?

Every testimonials at the funeral service for late Pa Michael Olayemi were eulogies to Pa. Olayemi as the type of true leader Nigeria deserve but never had.

That’s really unfortunately, especially when you juxtapose Pa Olayemi’s level of integrity with the current political class whose only interest is to deplete our common patrimony and deprive the people that voted them into office of basic necessities of life.

We can only pray that someday, somewhere, somehow, men with the caliber of integrity like Late Pa Micheal Akanji Olayemi would emerge to take the mantle of leadership in every tier of governance in our country, Nigeria.

Adieu Pa. Olayemi, we will always remember you as a great Ambassador of truth, selflessness and integrity.
