Nehemiah: Portrait of a Selfless Leader 12 – IDEDE Oseyande
“A Leader that can rescue Nigeria must be someone whose life goal is to leave a lasting Legacy. That will serve as a template for true leadership”
A good study of the priority of Nehemiah explains why it was difficult to corrupt him.
“Think upon me, my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people”
His priority, and life goal was to please God and have a good record in His sight. Assuming he wanted to be the richest Jew living in his time, he would have been ensnared by the largesse, and opportunities that comes with the office of the Governor. His passion for the people and the rebuilding project would have been swallowed up by his love for wealth.
If he was interested in having power and authority, he would have either made an attempt to install himself as King, thereby plunging the people into war, and untold hardship; Or he would have elongated his rule over them by delaying the work.
“And I commanded the levites that they should cleanse themselves and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the sabbath day. Remember me, O my God, concerning this also, and spare me according to the greatness of thy mercy”
This is what intending Nigerian leaders should emulate. To be able to survive the temptation of corruption in this country, one must not be ambitious for wealth, fame and power. If any of the three is your driving force, you will sacrifice anything to attain it. In the process of getting it at all cost, you will likely be dented by one of the made shades of corruption.
A leader that can be called a messiah to rescue Nigeria must be someone that has respect for posterity. An individual whose priority is to be counted faithful, by those that will come behind him.
Nigeria is in dire need of such leaders. Will you make yourself available?
May our Legacy not be dented by corruption!
