Chief Antoz is contesting as a member of the Ondo State House of Assembly from Akure South Constituency 2 to represent his people and attract attention to them as well as promote bills that will make the future of his people better.
He is contesting on the platform of ACPN, and he spoke to us in an interview.
Can we know you better?
I am Comrade Atolusi Damilola Anthony known as Chief Antoz, a Graduate of Mining Engineering from FUTA. Immediate JCC Chairman of Ondo State, and an aspirant into Ondo state House of Assembly from Akure South Constituency 2.
Can you please tell us some of your reasons for vying for this post in the Ondo State House if Assembly?
Firstly I am happy that ‘Not Too Young To Run Bill was passed into law and that someone like us can contest for a key position in the country. it has been my ambition to help young people and contribute to the develoment of my community. My dream is to contribute my own quota to the society by agitating for a proper representation and welfare of the people.
As youth we have to start from somewhere and stop pointing accusing fingers at our elders and leaders. I believe that if we the youth of this nation rise up and start to agitate and contest for key positions, we can make good representations in the assembly
Have you identified the weakness of your predecessors and how do you intend to improve on what they’ve done?
I realized that when people are elected into political offices they don’t look back or give back to the people or the community that made them. By the grace of God if I am elected I will make sure each ward in the consistency enjoy the dividends of democracy. Part of our plan is that we have known the needs and demands of each ward through research, and by the grace of God we will keep on working on each of their demands.
The country seems to be suffering from both leadership and followership problem, how do you intend to the liberate people of your constituency in a manner that they will be acquainted with their constitutional rights and privileges?
Some followers don’t even know the duties of the people they elected into positions, a country where money for consistency projects will be allocated and the people will be denied their rights is not good enough.
As legislators, we are to sponsor bills and implement laws that will favour our people and be of benefits to them. Some of our mothers and fathers don’t know about these, there is going to be a symposium that will be organised in the consistency, where our people will be liberated and also get to know their rights from each of their representatives.
How do you intend to make a difference, when it is obvious that a virus is attached to the Nigerian political offices, Can you convince your people that you will not suffer the same virus if elected?
I intend to make a difference by reaching out to my people and supporters. I will not neglect them after election. As an honourable member of the house representing them, I will know their problems and also their challenges, which I will make efforts to solve.
You’re contesting on the platform of ACPN, how do you intend to challenge the money-bag parties like the PDP and APC?
Politics is local, but its true money is required, I have been giving orientation to our people that we should not wait till we are mobilized to vote, but that we should vote competent and trustworthy man that can represent them well.
By the help of God Almighty, I believe I will deliver many units across the wards without money inducement.
One of the pertinent problems we have is the alarming rate of unemployment and underemployment that keep increasing geometrical daily, which has turned our vibrant youths and able-bodied men into nonentities, while it has been widely acclaimed that Nigerians are brilliant with a tenacity to succeed in every sphere of life, not excluding business, however, the aforementioned situation has pinned our people down. They are stranded by lack of capital, the few institutions that try to address the imbroglio have failed in their quest, rather than giving affordable loans to our young men, and women, they unfortunately become means of wealth transfer among the elites, who can provide collateral and overwhelming criteria demanded by the institutions. As someone, who knows where the shoe pinches, irrespective of the circumstances, I look forward to sponsoring a bill at the House of Assembly, which will give room for Youth Empowerment Scheme to be allocated in the state budget. This will allow youth with entrepreneurial skills to take advantage of the substantial amount of the resources to kick start businesses of their own with at least a minimum capital that suits the business.
I am also aware that few of the similar schemes by some states and the federal government are not easily accessible by the intended youth and women due to huge collateral required and other outrageous demands. This would be taken care of to ensure that the purpose of the bill is met.
We have schools that are outdated structurally and some with no significant educational facilities to aid teaching. In order to address the problem, we are going to start library project for the affected schools that will be equipped with different facilities for an average Nigeria citizen to walk up and make use of. We will never allow anybody to rob the current and upcoming generations of qualitative education or shortchange them. We will not subject them to political slavery.
Irrespective of the background and party, education will be free. Regards will be given to good observations and reactions pertaining to ward issues and and suggestions would be duly noted.
This will be a platform where people’s voice will be heard as is expected in a true democracy.
My political party is a little bit well known in the state. I just need to put in more publicity, when you say ‘Egbe Okere’ the marketers and traders already know its ACPN. I intend to make fliers indicating, where the party logo is in the ballot paper
Kindly, tell us few of the people-oriented programmes you have penciled down and your experience that will earn you the ticket?
Just to mention a few about my key leadership positions and why I think I am fit and able to deliver for the constituency I aspire to represent. I was a Chief of FUTA (Ilya Oyemekun) and I am the Immediate past Chairman, National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Committee, Ondo State Chapter (NANS, JCC ONDO AXIS). Also, I am the Coordinator of thr Nigerian Youth for Good Governance, Ondo State.
In conclusion, any other thing you wish to share with your people?
My mission is not in any way related to making cheap popularity, but rather to restore our people’s rights in terms of proper representation that entails continuous agitation for our consistency project, which is expected to be ceaselessly monitored to execution stage, projects that will affect our people positively and transform the constituency.
