Have You Read The Book? – IDEDE Oseyande
“Writing a book is the best complimentary card I ever made”
How many persons would have considered me a writer by mere having it stated on a complimentary card? I bet it would have been missing in many cars, lost and forgotten in many wallets, washed and damaged in many pockets!
I can still recall the fear of my work not being appreciated when I wrote my first book. I was so scared to the extent that when asked the price, I always answer, *”don’t worry, it is for free*”. 😜🤪😋
But over time I evolved! I learnt from those ahead of me and worked more on my content development. At the same time, I worked on my confidence in the value offered by my written works.
When I finally published *”What_Is_Left_Of_What_Is_Right?”*, the publisher pegged the selling price at three thousand Naira (3k) per copy. I was not comfortable with the price. As an Author who gave out his first book for free, the leap was too high to take. I had to reduce the cost of the book to two thousand Naira (2k) per copy. “One has to test the depth of a river with one leg”, I said to myself.
Today, the testimony is overwhelming. Every now and then, I get a recommendation based on the perception an individual has about me after reading my book. The content speaks volume, as it triggers the “you can do” spirit, and boost your belief in the singular effort of an individual in changing narratives.
Ironically, there are still some persons that bought the book and have not read a page from it. How do I know? It is difficult to go through the book without reaching out to me or to the person that gifted you the book.
The testimonies are there, both on social media and those that meet me in real life.
