BE YOURSELF DON’T BE SOMEONE ELSE – WALE ADEGBUYI
Life is not friendly, but nature is, for those who truly understands it. Most often, in the life of a man, the possibility of ups and down is high because life was not designed to be fair or have a preferential treatment for anyone.
If everything is rosy, be careful, if you often excel in every undertaking; be watchful, if your business is always prospering without any trace of challenge, you are heading towards a serious challenge. Life is designed to grow in phases, lag, log, stationary and diminishing.
Do you know that you can become great when you hear the right information, read the right books, have disciplined people as mentors, perfect your discerning spirit and always learn from other people’s mistakes.
We often appraise people, everybody wants to be great, we often dream to be like somebody, have we ever prayed to go through the kind of challenges they went through, have we ever imagined the price they paid to become what they are. Alas! No man will tell you how tough it was to be who he is, nor let you see the secret of his becoming what he has become, he will only tell you the sweet part of it, but the bitter aspect of it may not be culturally or socially acceptable. So, he will perfect his message to suit what you love to hear.
In human society, anyone that speaks the truth is an enemy of the society. Today, an average Nigerian, most especially Christians, condemn the Senior Pastor of Latter Rain Assembly, Tunde Bakare for his dogged fight against the authority, some see it as out of the norm for a man of God to do what he does. But in as much as there must be respect for the leaders, have you forgotten that the book of Proverbs says in 14; 31; “he that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his master: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.” Also, Proverbs 28; 4 – 7 says; “they that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contends with them. Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the lord understand all things. Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways though he be rich. Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.”
So, let’s pray for anyone that speaks against injustice and fights injustice to the letter. Have you forgotten that the role of spiritual leaders is to check and advise the leaders so that they don’t go astray from their calling. Have we also forgotten that “power corrupts; and absolute power corrupts absolutely” because many of the so-called leaders you pray to be like cry in their closet because the happiness they show on the outside is actually not present in their life.
They’ve gone beyond normal to acquire those things they feel could give them happiness, but instead they bring sorrow into their lives.
So, my friends, choose the right path today, the truth is that you can never have everything in life, why don’t you live a life of contentment rather than running after your shadow. Many have become slaves to their harvests, many are controlled by the money they worked for, and many lives are full of sadness in the midst of plenty. Be yourself, don’t be someone else.
It is good to aspire, it is good to run, and it is also good to dream, but above all, remember that the race is not for the swift nor the battle for the strong, time and tide happens to them all.
Let me use myself as a case study; I often ask myself most often, when people rate me in public, probably at function or amongst friends, those that eulogize me rarely understand the pains I go through because what they feel I am is not what I am. I haven’t reached where they thought I have passed, so it’s same for most people we celebrate. Look at our so called celebrities, move close to them, you will love to help them out of their trauma, we most often feel they are complete, so we wish to be like them, but by the time you get close to them, you will feel differently. It is interesting that you have to continue to be who you are not and strive all day to do anything to keep the fame and standard that never existed in the first place.
My dear friends, things cannot be smooth all through because even the holy book made us to understand that from our sweat we shall eat, not from sweat-less profit as it is being preached all over. Today, re-appraise yourself and move on, you will discover that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.
No matter how rich, wealthy or powerful you may be, no matter how much you sow seeds and even build churches and mosques for God, it does not guarantee your eternity. Solomon emphasized this in the book of Ecclesiastes 1: 1- end. If you go through this passage, you will discover that it’s important to seek eternity than treasures of this world, it will end here on earth, remember you came empty and empty you shall return and all you have labored for and gathered shall be inherited by the people, who never labored for it and the people who mocked you when you were working for them. If above all you lose eternity, then you will have yourself to blame.
“money is a tool, if properly channeled, money is a servant if you understand its dynamics; moment it rules you, then you have lost it” the Bible says “the LOVE of money; is the root of all EVIL”
